Pool Improvement
Dear Rancho San Miguel Members,

We, the Rancho San Miguel Swim Club Board members, would like to share with you some of our considerations on making significant and needed physical improvements to our pool. We think it is important to involve the entire pool membership in deciding the direction of these improvements as they will financially affect us all.

Since the pool opened in the 1960’s,  the pool board has managed the pool’s physical condition and has steadily made physical improvements that keeps the pool safe and appealing to our membership and their families.  We make many smaller improvements every year but every 10 years or so, the pool needs some major maintenance.  The way the pool pays for these improvements is through financing, membership assessments or a combination of both.

Some families may remember that the last major improvements to the pool were done in 1999.  This involved resurfacing the pool, new coping an tiles.   As past improvements age, the board has the responsibility to plan, fix or replace the existing equipment to keep the pool safe and in good working order.

During the last year, the pool board has been considering many different improvement options.  We have been soliciting professional evaluations on the pool’s various systems and general condition and collecting cost estimates for their upgrades.  We have come up with several options for improvements which we would like to start construction on this fall.  These improvements run the spectrum from major to modest.

We think the time is right for doing the work now for several reasons:

·     Our good financial health; the swim club is currently showing  a small profit in swim club revenues and the swim club has no debt;

·     Membership at the pool is strong having increased over the last few years;.

·     Bank loan interest rates are very low, if we decide to borrow money to make improvements; and

·     Building contractors are offering competitive bids, due to the slowed construction industry.

We are requesting members to complete a survey, which asks questions about your opinions surrounding pool improvements and how to fund them.  The survey can be completed online:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DXLGY2P

The survey is anonymous.

Another way you can express your opinion is to attend one of the two up-coming special membership meetings to discuss improvement options and get answers to any questions you might have.  We will have cost and condition information about the pool and members of the RSM Pool Board will be present to answer your questions.  The meetings will be held on Saturday August 28th at 5:00 pm and Sunday August 29th at 5:00 pm both in the Rancho San Miguel Pool Club House. We hope you can attend one of them.  Thank you for your opinion and time.

Sincerely,

Rancho San Miguel Swim Club Board

2010 RSM Maintenance Days

Club members can receive a refund of their maintenance fee  ($75) for the year by working 5 hours for the club.

In 2010 there are a number of opportunities to work for the club. We've scheduled two cleanup days (Saturday, Feb. 27 and Sunday Mar. 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and a closing down day (October 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and we will need on-call maintenance throughout the season. On-call maintenance consists of assorted jobs as well as power washing of the decks and cleaning BBQs.

If you are interested in working, please send an email to the Maintenance Director, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . In your email indicate the date(s) you are interested in, skills, and interests (i.e. painting, gardening, going to Home Depot, plumbing, electrical, construction, etc.).
