Jobs Overview

Requirements

Parents are required to work at up to 10 dual meet jobs throughout the season. Families who do not fulfill the requirement of obtaining 10 job credits will be fined $150 per job.  Job sign-up day takes place early in the season. It takes over 50 RSM parents to staff a home meet and more than 20 to assist at an away meet. It is your responsibility to find a replacement if you cannot make your job assignment. See the  What if I Can’t Work my Job? policy below. Check-in time is 30 minutes before the meet starts, unless otherwise noted.

Determining Job Credits

The basis for determining the number credits a job earns is based on the hours of work required. A timer commits to a meet averaging 3 hours which equals 1 job credit. Shifts and jobs based on responsibility are constructed roughly off that 3 hour time commitment. If a job is estimated to take a total of 3 hours to execute then it is worth 1 credit; 6 hours are 2 credits, etc. Because of the specialized training for stroke and turn and starter, half a meet is 1 credit.

Due to the volume of work at snack shack, shifts are 2 hour shifts for 1 credit. Special meals are awarded 2 credits (6 hours) because of the prep and cooking time for the meal as special meal are to include food preparation enough for 40 servings. Volunteers may incur some costs of food purchases unless otherwise determined by the snack shack coordinator.

If your youngest child is 15 years or older (competing in the 15 - 18 age group), your family is not required to do any jobs.

Key Jobs and Swim Team Board Positions

Parents may choose to perform a key job in place of working dual meet jobs. Most key jobs are filled prior to the beginning of the swim season. Contact the board at [email protected] to find out if there are any key jobs available.

What if I Can't Work my Job?

It is your responsibility to make other arrangements if you cannot work your assignment. Each family is responsible to provide a worker to fulfill the obligation for the family. A "no-show" for a meet job will be fined $100. It is important to arrive on time for your volunteer job. Two late arrivals = a no show & a fine of $100. To make sure you get proper credit, be sure your substitute signs in with the job coordinator under the originally scheduled name. Here are your options if you can’t work:

  1. Call another swim family and arrange a substitute or trade. Please ensure your substitute/swap has training at “skill” positions where required.
  2. You can hire a substitute. NOTE for 2022: We are still evaluating whether maintaining a list of substitutes will be feasible.  We will update the team if we can provide a list of people willing to act as substitutes for hire.

Please provide jobs coordinators at least 24 hour advance notice if you are making a substitution with another family.

NOTE: Swimmers are not allowed to do meet jobs and swim in the meets. It is tempting to sometimes ask your child to quickly fill in for while, but that can impact the flow of the meet.
